 Your Attitude Determines Your Altitude

My Father taught me to work; he did not teach me to love it.

-                      Abraham Lincoln

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, wither thou goest.

-                      Ecclesiastes 9:10

In the course of my duty as a manager where I work, I came across several people and recently, I came across a young lady who happened to be on Industrial Attachment in our organization.

Talk about attitude! This young lady’s attitude to work and people around her generally proves that she has a long way to go in life. When she was sent to work with one of my senior managers, I was asked to change her immediately. When I spoke with the people in her department, they were not eager to have her back either, so I decided to send her to another department where all she would do was probably to sit down all day, learning nothing, but gulping her paperback novels!

What is the message here? Unknown to her, her attitude to work assigned to her has determined her altitude! at least as far as our organization is concerned.

Relate that to all of her life, if she does not change, she might be going nowhere all because she feels she has arrived and too big for some things when obviously everybody around her seem to feel otherwise. Young man, young woman, watch your attitude. Where is it leading you – up or down?

Heed the preacher’s warning, do all you have to do not only with all your might but also with lots of smiles, after all you are not meant to love work, but to “do” work!
